چکیده

Crop systems and fertilization sources can affect the chemical properties of the soil and, consequently, its fertility. With the aim of evaluating the effect of such management practices, soil samples collected at 0.0-0.10; 0.10-0.20; and 0.20-0.40 m in depth were collected and analyzed in the second year of an experiment installed in 2006 in a Rhodic Hapludox under no-till farming, located in the Agronomic Experimental Station of UNIOESTE, in the city of Marechal Candido Rondon, Parana, Brazil. The experiment consisted of two crop systems (with and without rotation of cover crops) and three fertilization sources (mineral, organic and mineral+organic). The organic and mineral+organic fertilizations consisted of the application of animal manure alone and animal manure mixed with mineral fertilizer, respectively. The values of pH, exchangeable potassium (K+) and cation exchange capacity (CEC) were not affected by the different crop systems, related to the application of different fertilization sources. However, they did influence the organic matter contents (OM), potential acidity (H+ + Al3+), exchangeable aluminum (Al3+), phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), and the bases sum and saturation (V%). The organic and mineral+organic fertilizations, with animal manure promoted the highest increase in soil Ca and Mg.

Comparison of Net Global Warming Potential and Greenhouse Gas Intensity Affected by Management Practices in Two Dryland Cropping Sites

Little is known about the effect of management practices on net global warming potential (GWP) and greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI) that account for all sources and sinks of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in dryland cropping systems. The objective of this study was to compare the effect of a combination of tillage, cropping system, and N fertilization on GWP and GHGI under dryland cropping syste...

Proposal for 2004 - 2005 Northwest Columbia Plateau Wind Erosion / Air Quality Project

Objectives The objective of this research is to characterize biological, physical and chemical soil quality parameters and monitor their changes over time in minimum tillage and no-till seeding systems as affected by tillage, crop species and management systems to identify soil quality attributes that can be used in the development of best management practices for conserving soil quality and en...

A Global Meta-Analysis on the Impact of Management Practices on Net Global Warming Potential and Greenhouse Gas Intensity from Cropland Soils

Management practices, such as tillage, crop rotation, and N fertilization, may affect net global warming potential (GWP) and greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI), but their global impact on cropland soils under different soil and climatic conditions need further evaluation. Available global data from 57 experiments and 225 treatments were evaluated for individual and combined effects of tillage, cro...

Spore Density of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi is Fostered by Six Years of a No-Till System and is Correlated with Environmental Parameters in a Silty Loam Soil

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) play major roles in nutrient acquisition by crops and are key actors of agroecosystems productivity. However, agricultural practices can have deleterious effects on plant–fungi symbiosis establishment in soils, thus inhibiting its potential benefits on plant growth and development. Therefore, we have studied the impact of different soil management techniques, ...

Northwest Columbia Plateau PM10 Project Objective 7: Identify Sustainable Farming Practices for the Columbia Plateau by Measuring Changes in Soil Quality Title: Soil Quality Changes with No-till Management Adoption for Wind Erosion Control

of Research Findings Soil quality parameters were assessed at several long-term dryland cropping systems research sites in eastern Washington to further define management practices that are soil building rather than degrading. The objective was to characterize soil quality changes over time as affected by no-till versus traditional tillage-based management systems. Soil organic carbon slowly in...
